SHREVEPORT, La. -- A man has been arrested on charges he killed his girlfriend's 2-year-old son, whose body was found Thursday in a storeroom at the family home.
Tristan Anderson, 26, faces first-degree murder charges in the death of Ja'marsay Summerfield.
The child's mother had reported him missing on Wednesday -- two weeks after she last saw him, Shreveport police said.
Police said the mother, Tamera Summerfield, 28, told officers she had left her child with Anderson on Oct. 7 and believed Ja'marsay was being cared for by Anderson's mother and sister.
Detectives went to the Panetella Lane house where Summerfield and Anderson lived Thursday evening, checked around the house and found the toddler's body in a storeroom off the carport.
Caddo Coroner Dr. Todd Thoma would not disclose the cause of death. He said Ja'marsay had been dead four or five days.
Police detectives still have more interviews to conduct before they turn the case over to the district attorney's office, which will decide whether the charges against Anderson are appropriate and whether others should be arrested.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
