LEADVILLE - Two people are dead in what officials said appears to be a murder, suicide in West Park Wednesday evening.
The victims were Yvonne Flores, 58, and Anthony Medina, 58.
Lake County Sheriff's officials reported a 911 call was made at 8:18 p.m. reporting a shooting at 1601 Mount Massive Dr.
Deputies found the two victims in the driveway. Also responding were ambulance and fire department personnel.
Flores was transported to St. Vincent Hospital by ambulance with what officials said appeared to be two gunshot wounds to her chest and head.
Fire capt. Justin Cotsamire reported fire personnel accompanied the ambulance to the hospital and helped with chest compressions in the emergency room.
Sheriff's officers reported Flores died at the hospital.
Medina died at the scene with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head, officials reported.
Officers reported Flores was apparently returning home from the store when she was met in her driveway by Medina who allegedly shot her twice before turning the gun on himself.
Medina was free on bail after his arrest June 22 on charges of stalking Flores.
June 24, Medina was served a temporary restraining order forcing him to stay away from Flores pending a court hearing.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
