FORKS, Wash. —
A man and a woman found dead in a home in the Olympic Peninsula community of Forks have been identified as James and Brenda Grant.
Clallam County sheriff's Detective Lyman Moores says investigators believe Grant shot his wife and then himself.
Police responded to the home at about 6 a.m. Monday when a friend of James Grant called 911 after receiving a text message from the man. According to investigators, the message said, "You'll hate me. Please take the two kids and raise them right."
A 10-year-old boy and a younger girl ran unhurt from the house about 11 a.m. as Washington State Patrol SWAT officers prepared to enter.
Mayor Bryon Monohon says the family is well-known in Forks. James Grant reportedly was hired last week as a corrections officer at Clallam Bay Corrections Center.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
