BELFAST, Maine (AP) ― A woman sent a text message to her daughter saying "he's threatening to kill me" before being choked to death in her Morrill home by the man she was living with, state police said.
Court documents indicate Dennis Edgecomb dialed 911 an hour later and told a dispatcher that he choked Pamela Green, 42, who was dead when officers arrived Tuesday.
Edgecomb, 39, made his initial court appearance Wednesday in Waldo County Superior Court in Belfast. He was not required to enter a plea, defense attorney Jeremy Pratt said. Afterward, Edgecomb was returned to jail, where he was being held without bail on a murder charge.
Edgecomb told investigators that Green attacked him late Tuesday morning because he was making plans to move out. One officer heard Edgecomb say he "lost it," and he told another officer he "just didn't stop," according to an affidavit filed by State Police Detective Scott Bryant.
The victim's daughter, Hannah Green, told detectives her mother sent a message via Yahoo messenger an hour before the 911 call, saying "he's threatening to kill me right now, call and you can hear it."
During the 911 call, Edgecomb told the dispatcher that he killed someone but that he was defending himself, the affidavit said. He was on the phone when officers arrived. An autopsy performed Wednesday by the state medical examiner's office confirmed that the victim was strangled.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
