DALLAS, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina say a 25-year-old man shot and killed his pregnant girlfriend and two of the couple's children, then killed himself.
Gaston County Police Capt. Joe Ramey said Friday that another child was shot in the head and is recovering at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The Gaston Gazette reports the shootings happened in Dallas, about 25 miles east of Charlotte.
Ramey says the father, Austen Blake Minter, shot the woman and kids in the kitchen of their home sometime between midnight Thursday and 1 p.m. Friday.
The victims were identified as 24-year-old Tracy Lee Hedgepath; 6-year-old Austen Blake Minter II; and 3-year-old Serenity Tyvon Minter. The grisly scene wasn't discovered until Friday night, after Hedgepath's parents called 911 because the woman hadn't shown up for work.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
