The United States government is refusing to transfer a German diplomat's son from a Virginia prison where he is serving two life terms for murder.
Attorney General Eric Holder said in a Tuesday letter to Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell that Jens Soering won't be considered for an international transfer without the state's consent.
Soering is serving two life terms in Virginia for the 1985 stabbing deaths of his then-girlfriend's parents, Derek and Nancy Haysom, in Bedford County.
The German government had requested the transfer and Democratic former Gov. Tim Kaine had asked the U.S. government to approve it.
Weeks later, Republican McDonnell took office and emphatically rescinded the request.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
