MEEKER — Police say a Meeker man shot and killed his wife Tuesday night during an argument.
Ronald D. Hamlin, 35, was in jail Wednesday on a murder complaint after his wife, Terri Garner, was found shot Tuesday in their apartment. A neighbor called police Tuesday night to report a shooting at the complex at 400 Dover Circle, according to a police affidavit.
Police arrived to find Garner bleeding severely. She later died.
According to the affidavit, Hamlin told police he and his wife started drinking about 5 p.m. They later started arguing about one of Garner’s ex-boyfriends. Hamlin told police his wife retrieved and loaded his revolver, which he wrestled away from her. He claimed he was talking to her and waving the gun around when “it just went off,” the affidavit states.
Police said Hamlin admitted hiding the gun in a phone box in the apartment complex.
Meeker Police Chief Don Conner said five children in the home, ages 3 months to 7 years, were taken into state custody after the shooting.
