On this day, April 18, in 2003, Scott Peterson was arrested in the slaying of his pregnant wife, Laci Peterson, in one of the most talked about crimes in America.
Lacy Peterson was reported missing on Christmas Eve 2002. Her body, and that of her fetus, were found April 14 in the San Francisco Bay.
Police arrested Peterson at a golf course. He carried $15,000 in cash, 24 packs of sleeping pills, a dagger, rope and a map to the workplace of Amber Frey, his mistress and the prosecutor's star witness.
Peterson also had dyed his hair blond and carried IDs and equipment to go on the run.
He was convicted of killing his wife and unborn baby and sentenced to death.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
