St. Tammany Parish, LA: St. Tammany stabbing death may have been self-defense
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide that happened just after 4:00am this morning at a residence on Brownswitch Road in the Slidell area.
According to detectives, a woman received a call from her ex-boyfriend, who reportedly wanted to come over and retrieve some of his belongings. Police say when the ex-boyfriend heard other male voices in the background, he became enraged and went to the woman's house.
Witnesses told police that when the ex-boyfriend arrived, armed with a machete, a "physical altercation" took place between the ex-boyfriend and another man already at the home.
Police say that during the fight, the man at the home fatally stabbed the ex-boyfriend with a pocketknife.
A department spokesman says a woman at the residence called 911 to report the incident.
According to Sheriff spokesman George Bonnett, "Investigators are currently reviewing the facts of the case, including statements by all those present at the residence, to determine if the man was acting in self-defense."
The Sheriff's Department has not yet identified any of the parties involved in the incident.
