SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Shreveport police say an officer shot and killed a man who attacked him with a screwdriver and was unaffected by a stun gun.
Sgt. Bill Goodin, a police spokesman, identified the officer Saturday as Cpl. Darrell Miller and the man he shot as 40 year old Alberta Brooks. He says Brooks was shot three times.
He says the district attorney will decide whether to bring charges, and Miller is on paid administrative leave under department policy.
Goodin says Brooks' girlfriend had called early Friday to say he was causing problems and she wanted him out of their house. He says Brooks was gone when police arrived, but apparently forced the door open later.
Miller answered the second call.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
