ATLANTA-- Georgia ranks 15th in the country when it comes to domestic violence murders.
That statisitic is from the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Georgia Commission on Family Violence. The groups just fished their annual Domestic Violence Fatality Review Report.
Dr. Kirsten Rambo with the Georgia Commission on Family Violence said the purpose is to honor those who have been killed and to learn from their tragedies to prevent future acts of domestic violence.
"What we know is that these deaths are tragic and preventable. This study is a roadmap for improving victims safety and perpetrator accountability," Rambo said.
Study leaders say the key to prevention is communication. According to the study, n 89 percent of cases, someone in the victim's life knew that domestic violence was going on long before it spiraled into murder.
If you or someone you know is being abused call 1-800-33-HAVEN, a statewide, 24 hour, confidential hotline.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
