WORCESTER — Prosecutors say a Massachusetts man charged with killing his wife and leaving her body in a suitcase in the woods killed her by administering a fatal does of morphine.
Asim Amran was ordered held without bail after pleading not guilty to murder at his arraignment Wednesday in Worcester Superior Court.
Authorities say the 30-year-old Amran killed 27-year-old Faiza Malik on or about Dec. 31, 2008.
The decomposed body of the woman, who emigrated from Pakistan to marry Amran, was discovered Aug. 20 in a suitcase in a wooded area of Oxford more than 30 miles away from their home.
A spokesman for the Worcester district attorney’s office tells The Telegram & Gazette an autopsy determined that Malik died from morphine poisoning. He did not say how it was administered.
