Police on Long Island say an arrest has been made in connection with the death of a Queens mother who had been missing since before Thanksgiving.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, Marvon Jemmott, 35, was charged with second-degree murder today, after confessing on video to fatally strangling Jamaica Smith.
Jemmott is now being held without bail.
Police say Jemmott and the 36-year-old victim, pictured right, had a child together.
Smith's body was found by a meter reader on Krull Street in Uniondale Long Island. She was last seen taking her daughter to P.S. 156 in Laurelton the day before Thanksgiving.
She was supposed to meet a contractor about home renovations a few blocks away, but never showed up.
The district attorney says Smith was strangled in Rosedale, Queens, before being dumped on Long Island.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
