DETROIT - The brother of Detroit Lions defensive lineman Grady Jackson has been convicted of second-degree murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says a jury Friday found Javorris Jackson guilty of killing 26-year-old Courtney Solomon of Lathrup (LAY'-thrup) Village, who died May 4 after being shot at a Dearborn hotel. Jackson survived a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
Jackson could receive up to life in prison at a sentencing hearing scheduled for Dec. 21 before Circuit Judge Michael Hathaway.
Jackson graduated from Lathrup High School in Southfield and played football for two seasons at Savannah State in Georgia. He served as team captain during the 2008 season.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
