A Clay County jury on Thursday recommended death for an Orange Park man who beat his girlfriend to death with a hammer.
The jury voted 9-3 in favor of the death penalty for David James Martin. Circuit Judge William Wilkes will make the final decision next month.
Martin, 23, was found guilty last month in the beating death of Jacey Lynn McWilliams, 23 of Jacksonville.
McWilliams’ body was found in March 2008 on a remote wooded road in Middleburg. McWilliams was hit several times in the head with a hammer.
The two had been dating about six weeks at the time of the killing.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
