MURPHY, CHEROKEE COUNTY -
(WRCB) - A Cherokee County man has been arrested and charged with murder in his girlfriend's death.
Forty-three-year-old Robert Edward Walker was arrested early Thursday morning in connection with the death of 31-year-old Amy Nixon.
Deputies say Nixon was found in a lifeless state after they were called to home in the Martins Creek Community on a domestic dispute called.
Deputies attempted to perform CPR on Nixon until paramedics arrived and pronounced her dead at the scene.
Deputies from Cherokee County, tracking dogs from Union County and Murphy police officers all assisted in the late night search for Nixon's boyfriend.
Shortly after midnight, Walker was found a couple of miles from Nixon's home and arrested.
Walker remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center, without bond.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Nixon, but a cause of death has not yet been determined.
