An East Point man faces homicide and feticide charges after allegedly shooting to death his 21-year-old pregnant girlfriend, the city said Friday night.
East Point officers responded Wednesday night to a Laurel Ridge Way apartment to investigate a report of a person shot, James Hammond, spokesman for the city, said.
There, officers found the victim, Ashley Clark, who had been shot in the upper body, Hammond said. Clark, who was pregnant, was treated at the scene by emergency responders and transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she died, Hammond said.
Clark's live-in boyfriend, Roderick Watkins, was taken into custody without incident and charged with one count of murder and one count of feticide, Hammond said.
A viewing for Clark will be held Monday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. at William Gayleano Murray & Son Funeral Home in Atlanta, according to a spokesman for the funeral home. Clark's funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church on Cascade Road.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
