UPDATE -- Police say an autopsy revealed the preliminary cause of death to be multiple stab wounds of the chest.
AMARILLO -- Amarillo police are investigating the city's second homicide of the year.
It happened overnight in northwest Amarillo where police say a woman was stabbed multiple times by her boyfriend.
Jamario Deron Oliver, 33, is accused of killing Amanda Lynn Butler, 33.
Oliver is currently hospitalized with a non life threatening injury to his hand and will be charged with murder once he's released.
This case looks pretty cut-and-dried for police, complete with an alleged confession. According to the complaint filed by police Oliver told officers what he had done.
The complaint alleges Oliver killed Butler in her apartment at the Hilltop apartments on the 1600 block of NW 18th around 3:30am. Investigators say she had been stabbed in the upper body several times.
Paramedics arrived a few minutes after police. But it was too late. Butler was pronounced dead at the scene.
While on scene, police received another call, allegedly from Oliver, claiming he wanted to talk to police about what he had done.
Police went to Oliver's brother's home a few blocks away and discovered Oliver with a hand injury.
While at the hospital, Oliver allegedly confessed to the crime.
According to the police complaint, Oliver gave an oral recorded confession.
