LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A Lincoln man accused of beating a woman to death has been taken from jail to a hospital.
Lincoln police Capt. David Beggs says 24-year-old William Pereira was found in his cell with a head injury before 1 p.m. Sunday and was conscious when he arrived at the hospital. Police say it may have been a suicide attempt.
Pereira was arrested Saturday in the death of 19-year-old Alissa Magoon. Police say officers arrived at a Lincoln apartment about 5 a.m. Saturday to find Pereira beating Magoon. She died at the scene.
Lancaster County Court records show Pereira pleaded no contest last Monday to third-degree assault. His sentencing was set for Feb. 11. No one at the public defender's office was available Sunday to comment.
No number was listed for Pereira
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
