PHOENIX - For the second day in a row, a valley neighborhood is surrounded by police after reports of a gun being fired. This time, the shooting ends in a fatality.
Phoenix police said a man and his girlfriend were arguing in an apartment complex near 34th Avenue and Dunlap on Thursday.
A neighbor tried to intervene when the argument became physical. He was able to get the man outside to talk to him. When the man's girlfriend went outside, she said she saw her boyfriend stabbing the neighbor. She ran across the street to get help at a Walgreens, police said.
In the meantime, the man went door-to-door looking for his girlfriend. At one point, he even kicked in the door of one of her family members.
Police said they arrived at the apartment complex just before 2 a.m. The man went to meet them with his knife in hand.
Police said they told him to drop the knife, and he did. However, they said he then pulled a gun and pointed it at two officers, and they shot him.
The man was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they are still searching for the neighbor who was stabbed. They think he may have driven to a local hospital for treatment.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
