A Latrobe woman admitted that she shot and killed her boyfriend Wednesday night, police said.
Lorenza Swiger, 46, was charged Thursday with homicide in the death of Mark Androstic, 43, at their residence on East First Avenue.
Police responding to the house said Ms. Swiger was hysterical when they arrived about 11:40 p.m. and said her boyfriend had been shot, according to an affidavit. She led officers to Mr. Androstic, who was lying at the bottom of the stairs with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police found a handgun on the steps above the victim.
Ms. Swiger "admitted to having the gun in her hand when it discharged a bullet" into her boyfriend, police wrote in the affidavit. The motive was unclear.
Mr. Androstic was taken to Excela Latrobe Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m.
Ms. Swiger was being held at the Westmoreland County Jail.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
