LIBERTY, Mo. -- Shon Pernice was indicted on Tuesday in the death his wife, Renee Pernice.
Clay County Prosecutor Dan White said that Shon Pernice was indicted on a charge of first-degree murder by a Clay County grand jury. His bond was set at $1 million.
White said Pernice was arrested by Kansas City police. He was booked into the Clay County Detention Center.
KMBC's Peggy Breit, the only reporter in the booking area, reported that Pernice said nothing when he was brought into the jail.

Renee Pernice has been missing since January 2009. She is presumed dead. Just after her disappearance, Shon Pernice made only one statement to police. He said Renee walked out of their Northland home on Jan. 2.
Renee Pernice's cell phone was discovered in the northeast area of town near Independence Avenue and Gladstone Boulevard.
"We do not have Renee's body," White said.
The family is still offering a significant reward for information leading to the location of Renee Pernice's body or to the conviction of her husband.
"We deeply want Renee back," said Rick Pretz, Renee Pernice's father.
Her mother, Linda Lockwood, who has had custody of Renee and Shon Pernice's two children since last year, said the children are moving closer "to normalcy."
"The kids are doing very well," Lockwood said. She said the children enjoy playing soccer. The children have had supervised weekly visits with their father.
Lockwood said the family will discuss the latest developments with the children and echoed Pretz's comments about her relief at Tuesday's indictment.
Shon Pernice was an Independence firefighter and paramedic at the time of his wife's death. He was later fired.
His mother, Marsha, told KMBC that she believes her son is a good-hearted man and is innocent. She said she believes her daughter-in-law ran away from her family because of stress she was under.
After Shon Pernice's arrest, Renee Pernice's family went to the couple's home to collect Renee Pernice's belongings. They left just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police almost immediately focused on Shon Pernice as a suspect after Renee Pernice went missing. According to court documents, Shon Pernice released Renee Pernice's dog in a park in the days after she went missing. Police later picked up the dog.
According to court documents, Shon Pernice used an electronic key-card to enter an Independence hazmat station where various cleaning supplies were kept. Shon Pernice was not assigned to that hazmat station. He was in the station several hours before his wife's family reported her missing.
