GRAFTON TOWNSHIP — Holly Dembie was a special education teaching aide within the Midview School District. According to her resume, she was working toward her bachelor’s degree from Lorain County Community College and believed in the power of teaching.
The 33-year-old from Grafton Township was found dead early this morning. Her husband of roughly six years, William Dembie, 42, called the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office direct line at 1:32 a.m. confessing to the killing from the couple’s 14900 Cowley Road home, according to Lorain County Sheriff’s Sgt. Donald Barker.
Dembie has been a Lorain County Sheriff’s Corrections Officer since 1999.
He was taken to the Lorain County Jail and has been placed on administrative leave without pay. This morning, he appeared in Elyria Municipal Court before Judge Lisa Locke Graves and was given a $5 million bond. He did not enter a plea because a murder charge is a felony, according to court records.
He was also told to have a no contact order with Holly Dembie's mother or their child.
William Dembie initially called the sheriff’s office, telling deputies he had beheaded his wife. When deputies arrived later to the scene, Holly Dembie was found dead after suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Holly Dembie had an expected graduation date from LCCC set for 2013 and has received an associate’s degree from the community college. She has been a Special Needs Paraprofessional since 2002.
She had professional affiliations with the Cleveland Sight Center, Special Olympics and The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio.
“My ability to motivate students and share a love of learning fosters a successful classroom environment,” she wrote in her resume. “I would welcome becoming part of a team that makes a difference.”
Holly Dembie used a reference from Kara Kaiser in her resume, which states, “Holly uses her caring personality and contagious sense of humor to connect with her students and inspire them to do their best at all times.”
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
