A crime scene clean-up crew goes in and out of William and Barbara Richardson's home on Range Road in China Spring Tuesday morning.
Neighbors say Monday afternoon one of the couple's three sons walked into the home and found his parents shot to death. McLennan County Sheriff's deputies say it appears to be a murder suicide.
"It's extremely shocking. You wouldn't expect it from someone like that," says Wayne Webb who lives across the street from the Richardson's. "We were saying 'no way.' We just absolutely did not believe that could be possible, but you know I guess anything's possible."
Wayne has owned property on Range Road for more than 35 years. He says he knew the Richardson's, but only in passing.
"I'd wave at them everyday, would see them when we clean our car and we'd wave and as always, every time you'd see them they were smiling."
Wayne's daughter-in-law grew up with the couple's sons. "All of the kids grew up in the same church as that family. And...they consider each other family even though they're not family you know because they all grew up together."
The Richardson's were long-time members of Northside Church of Christ near Waco. They did a lot of volunteer work with the church and both William, 73-years old, and Barbara, 71-years old, taught Sunday school.
Many neighbors say they are struggling to figure out why this would happen. They don't believe William or Barbara were sick and say they seemed happy.
"We're still upset about it and we didn't even know them very well. We just know what good of people they were and it bothers us real bad," Wayne adds.
Neighbors say William and Barbara had three sons and six grandchildren. The couple's bodies have been sent to Dallas for an autopsy.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
