Authorities on Thursday identified the man who was fatally shot a day earlier by police in Santa Monica after stabbing his ex-girlfriend.
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified the man as Frank Walter Johnson, a 59-year-old transient.
Santa Monica police shot Johnson on Wednesday evening as he was stabbing a woman reported to be his former girlfriend. Johnson had apparently climbed into her apartment through a window.
Police arrived while the stabbing was in progress and shot Johnson four times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman, who has not been identified, remains hospitalized.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
