Corpus Christi, TX: A Portland Woman Dies from Gun Shot Wounds to the Chest

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) - A 42-year-old Portland woman is dead after investigators say her husband shot her several times.
Detectives arrive at Leanne Carol Wingert's home at La Mirada St. and Bay Breeze Dr.  around 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Scott Wingert, The 41-year-old husband, called 911. EMS crews rushed the husband and wife to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital.
Investigators say Mrs. Wingert was shot several times in the chest with a large caliber revolver, and Mr. Wingert was shot in the face.
Chief Randy Wright of the Portland Police Department says, "it is a quiet neighborhood, but these things do happen, I can't really get into whether or not we've had calls here before, it's just domestic violence is a problem nationwide and sometimes it deteriorates into some really violent confrontations."
Chief Wright says at least five rounds were fired from the gun. A neighbor told 3 News that they have never noticed any problems between the Wingerts.
The case is under investigation.
