CONWAY, S.C. --
A judge has rejected a request for a new trial for a South Carolina man who pleaded guilty to stabbing his girlfriend to death outside a school in 2006.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported a judge in Conway turned down the request Tuesday for a new trial for 28-year-old Edwin Cornelius of Aynor.
Cornelius pleaded guilty in 2008 to killing 18-year-old Natalia Holmes outside Carolina Forest High School in Myrtle Beach.

Circuit Judge Benjamin Culbertson rejected Cornelius' contention that he did not get adequate legal representation. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Original defense attorney Ralph Wilson says he and Cornelius had rejected a plea agreement for a 40 year prison term, in hopes of getting a 30-year sentence. Instead, Cornelius received the maximum sentence.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
