MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (AP) — The Morristown Police chief says one his officers fatally shot a man who was fighting with a woman.
The Citizen Tribune (http://bit.ly/RCJmUx ) reported 23-year-old Joseph Allan Weeks of New Market was killed.
Police Chief Roger Overholt said Weeks refused police commands to put down a gun as he fought with his girlfriend, 35-year-old Alkini Dawn Thompson, on Wednesday night. Overholt said an officer, fearing for Thompson's safety and his own, fired two shots, killing Weeks.
Overholt said the preliminary investigation showed the officer followed state law and department policy. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will review the shooting, which is standard procedure.
Police arrested Thompson, saying she assaulted her 12-year-old daughter for calling police after Weeks initially threatened to shoot himself.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
