PIERRE PART, LA (WAFB) -
Detectives said a woman was shot to death by her live-in boyfriend, who then shot himself twice Wednesday morning.
He initially survived, but later died at an area hospital.
According to the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office, Heather Dunigan, 26, was shot and killed by Henry Walker Jr., 29, at their home in Pierre Part.
Her stepmother called authorities around 7:40 a.m. to report the shooting.
The three adults, along with the couple's infant and another child, all live together on Tut Street in Pierre Part.
The older woman told sheriff's deputies Dunigan was holding the couple's 7-month-old child at the time of the shooting.
The baby was not injured.
When investigators arrived on the scene, Dunigan was already dead.
They said Walker had suffered two self-inflicted gunshot wounds, but was still alive.
He was taken to a Baton Rouge-area hospital, where he later died.
It has been learned Walker had aggravated criminal damage to property and drug charges out of Concordia Parish.
The shooting remains under investigation.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
