UPDATE: An Edwards County Illinois man is accused of beating his wife to death. It happened early Thursday morning at a home on North 8th Street in Albion. Shady Beatty faces charges of murder and domestic battery. Gary Markman says his daughter Cynthia was having marriage problems. He says he wasn't surprised when he found out his daughter was dead.
Violence broke the quiet of this Albion, Illinois neighborhood around 3:45 Thursday morning.
"It was really freaky to wake up to that this morning," Kathy Wilkin said.
Authorities say Shady Leroy Beatty choked and beat Cynthia Beatty in the head, face and body with his hands and feet, killing her.
"I had just seen Cindy yesterday at the dang grocery store, stood right next to her," Larry Stone said.
Beatty is charged with murder and domestic battery. The incident happened at a home on North 8th Street.
"Well, I guess it's out of character for anybody to beat someone to death," Stone said.
Gary Markman is Cynthia's father. He showed us a picture of his daughter when she was younger.
"I understand that he physically beat her in the head and killed her, but he threatened to do that one time to me, but I told him that he didn't want to try it," Gary Markman said.
Markman says he heard Beatty had been drinking Thursday night and just lost it.
"I just honestly, I told her to stay away from him and she just had to have her way," Markman said.
"Yes, it's not surprising that if he were drinking that they might have gotten in a fight, but it was kind of surprising that he would kill her," Wilkin said.
Beatty is listed on the Illinois sex offender information website for criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Markman says Beatty and Cynthia have a young boy, who is now staying with family.
Beatty's bond has been set at $1 million. He is due in court July 26th.
