MIAMI -- Prosecutors believe a Miami woman hired a hit man to kill her husband for his insurance money in 2003.
Last week, 42-year-old Janet Barr and 32-year-old Javon Quentin Robinson were charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Both pleaded not guilty.
Police say Jeffrey Ricardo Barr was shot to death outside his North Miami-Dade duplex.
A relative who had been jailed in Escambia County came forward with details of the murder plot, saying his cousin had first asked him to kill her husband.
Detectives suspected Barr was involved in the slaying. Records show the motive for the killing didn't appear to be robbery because Jeffrey Barr's gold necklace and bracelet were not taken.
According to the arrest affidavit, it was not known how much insurance money Barr collected.
