A Montgomery man has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of his girlfriend.
Kenneth King, 19, of Stokes Road was handling a loaded handgun at a city resi-
dence when the weapon discharged early Tuesday, according to a news release from the Montgomery Police Depart ment.
King's girlfriend, 19-year-old Marquishia Thigpen of Frost Street, was shot and killed, the news release states.
The shooting occurred at a residence in the 300 block of Mooreland Road. Thigpen was pronounced dead at 3:12 a.m. after being taken by a private vehicle to Baptist Medical Center South, according to police.
King was charged Tuesday morning at police headquarters before being transported to the Montgomery County Detention Center, where he was being held under $75,000 bond, according to the release.
The slaying marks Montgomery's 20th homicide of the year, the release states. The investigation into the shooting is continuing.
