The Lafayette Police Department has released the name of the man who died of a gunshot wound.
Forty-nine year old Michael Davis died Saturday. Police say a domestic dispute started on Willow Street between a man and a woman. They both then got into separate cars fleeing the area. The man then fired at least two gunshots, striking the woman's car twice. The man crashed into a tree at the intersection of University Avenue and Simcoe Street, and was pronounced dead on the scene from a gunshot wound.
It is still unclear how the man was shot. Investigators say he was the only one with a gun, and they are hoping that autopsy results will determine whether the wound was accidental or intentional.
The case remains under investigation.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
