A woman who got out of her car on I-285 was struck by several vehicles and killed early Sunday morning, Cobb police said.
Police said Garcia-Victoria was driving westbound on I-285 near Cobb Parkway and engaged in an argument with 38-year-old Michael Swetell, also of Norcross, when Swetell pulled the emergency brake, causing the 2002 Honda Civic to come to an abrupt halt in the emergency lane.
Both occupants left the vehicle and continued to argue, police said. Garcia-Victoria was struck in the right travel lane by multiple vehicles. Only one driver stopped to report the accident.
Garcia-Victoria died at the scene.
Swetell drove to a Waffle House on Atlanta Road at about 3:40 a.m. and sought assistance, investigators said.
Cobb police arrived and took Swetell into custody. After questioning he was charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct, concealing a death, tampering with evidence and DUI.
Anyone who may have been involved in this pedestrian fatality or has knowledge of it is asked to call 770-499-3987.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
