A Cass County woman has been charged in the shooting death of her husband on Thursday.
Authorities
took Billie B. Campbell, 55, into custody Saturday after she was
released from a hospital. She was jailed on charges of first-degree
murder and armed criminal action. Her bond is set at $1 million cash.
According
to the Cass County sheriff’s office, deputies were called about 9:50
p.m. Thursday on a reported shooting in the 27000 block of Southeast
Outer Road, south of Harrisonville near U.S. 71. They found a wounded
Eldon Eugene Campbell Jr., 60. He later died at the hospital.
Campbell,
known as Rocky, was an owner of Campbell Fire Protection, which is in
the same block where the shooting occurred. The business installs and
services fire protection and security equipment and systems.
Court
records show that the Cass County sheriff’s office denied Eldon
Campbell a gun permit in July 2009 but in response to a judge’s order
issued him one three months later, according to The Star’s reporting
partner, KCTV5.
In April of this year, Billie Campbell filed for
divorce. Later that month, according to KCTV5, the two were given
protective orders against each other.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
