Two teenagers are dead - the victims of a murder-suicide in Williston yesterday afternoon.
Williston Police report 16-year-old Anne White, a junior at Williston High School, was shot and killed by 18-year-old Gabriel Dye, a student at Williston State College.
The shooting happened outside the White home in the Glenn Villa Mobile Home Park just after three-pm Monday.
Police Detective Mark Hanson says Dye used a semiautomatic pistol to kill White, before turning the gun on himself.
Hanson says White was pronounced dead at Williston's Mercy Medical Center, while Dye survived the initial shooting, but died either enroute to, or just after arrival at Minot's Trinity Hospital.
The detective says the teenagers had been in a dating relationship that had recently ended.
He says the two deaths are a big blow to the community.
(Mark Hanson, Williston Police Detective) "This is a tragic event for both families, irregardless of the situation. They're both Williston youth and well known and liked in this community, both of these victims."
Hanson says autopsies are being performed on both bodies at the State Medical Examiner's office in Bismarck.
He says police continue to investigate the case trying to determine what might have led up to the shooting.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
