SURRY — A man and women were found dead Saturday afternoon after a dispute that became a murder-suicide.
According to the Surry County Sheriff's Office, dispatch received a call reporting shots fired at 3:15 p.m.
After police were called to a residence at the Pooles Mobile Home Park in the 8600 block of Colonial Trail East, officials found Floyd Jones and his wife, Daisy, shot to death, said Senior Deputy Michael Bailey.
Bailey said that the husband and wife got into an incident and Floyd Jones fatally shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself.
A domestic issue was at the root of the fatal incident, Bailey said. Floyd Jones left no notes explaining his motives behind the shooting, Bailey added.
This was the first time that authorities were called to the Jones' residence, Bailey said.
The trailer park where the incident happened is about five miles south of Chippokes Plantation State Park.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
