Denis Omar Funez-Florez has been indicted by a Rowan County grand jury in the first-degree murder of 25-year-old Kendy Patricia Funez.
Funez was killed Aug. 19. She was found on a bed with a gunshot wound to the face in a home at 165 Oakhurst Drive.
Salisbury Police said Funez-Florez confessed to killing Funez, his live-in girlfriend.
Funez-Florez did not try to flee the scene, and was there when officers arrived.
Signs of struggle in the mobile home were found, and investigators said the shooting was the result of domestic violence. Police said Funez-Florez had been drinking.
Salisbury Police Chief Rory Collins said calls to the Oakhurst Drive home for domestic violence investigations have never been made, but police did respond to a call about suspicious drug activity at the residence.
Funez-Florez is the sixth person to be charged with murder this year. If found guilty, he could face life in prison or death.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
