An Eatonville-area man suspected of shooting himself after killing his live-in girlfriend on Sunday has been identified as Hector Estrada, 57, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office.
The slain woman was identified as Yolanda G. Patchin, 47, according to death investigators.
Efforts to contact relatives of the couple were unsuccessful Monday.
Pierce County Sheriff's Det. Ed Troyer said Monday that detectives still haven't turned up a motive for the apparent murder-suicide, but the firearm used in the shootings has been recovered.
According to public records, Patchin was the registered owner of Farm by the Pond Kennels, located in the 4100 block of State Route 702 East, located between Roy and Eatonville. Troyer said Sunday more than 75 dogs were found on the property.
"They stored dogs for people out of the area and were breeding dogs," Troyer said Monday, though he didn't know what kind of dogs the couple were breeding.
Four children ranging in age from 10 to 15 were present during the shooting Sunday but in a different part of the home. Two belonged to the couple, a third was a child from Patchin's prior relationship and the a fourth was a visiting friend, Troyer said.
The couple's 11-year-old daughter called police.
"At this point, we don't believe any of them saw it, but they heard the shots," Troyer said.
The couple's children are all with adult family members, he said.
Troyer said Pierce County sheriff's deputies had not been previously called to the residence.
