Point Breeze, PA: Transgender woman charged in Point Breeze slaying has ties to another murder suspect

A transgender woman accused of fatally stabbing her boyfriend early yesterday in Point Breeze was once a co-defendant in a case with a transgender prostitute who allegedly killed a man at an Old City hotel last year, according to police, court records and other sources.

Police said Alonzo Simmons, 29, fatally stabbed Angel Brown, 27, about 2:45 a.m. at the home they shared on Oakford Street near 21st.

Simmons, who sources said lived as a woman, waited for police to arrive and directed them to a bed where Brown, her boyfriend, had a single stab wound to the chest, police said.

Brown died at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania 3:27 a.m., and Simmons was taken in for questioning. She was charged with murder and related offenses yesterday afternoon.

Neighbors said they didn't know Simmons or Brown very well and were surprised to hear anyone was killed in the area, which is less than block from the 17th Police District, at 20th and Federal streets.
Court records show that Simmons has been arrested several times on misdemeanor charges of loitering, disorderly conduct and obstructing highways.

In the most recent case, from Dec. 4, 2009, Simmons was charged with obstructing highways. One of her two co-defendants is listed in online court records as Herman Burton.

Burton, 23, a transgender woman who goes by the name Peaches, allegedly beat and strangled Patrick Michael Brady, 49, on Oct. 30 in a room at the Omni Hotel on 4th and Chestnut streets. Brady was a married father from Chester County who worked in information technology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

After the killing, Burton brought two other men in the room for sex and then, with an accomplice's help, set the room on fire, according to prosecutors. She is awaiting trial on murder charges.
The exact nature of the case in which Simmons and Burton were co-defendants was not available yesterday.
