Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that left three people dead near the University of Memphis campus, MyFoxMemphis.com reported Sunday.
The shooting occurred Sunday afternoon.
Police say two women and a man were killed, but that two teenagers in the home survived the shooting.
According to Lt. Col. James Kirkwood, "One of the children of the victim came out and met the officers and advised that their father had just shot their mother and grandmother and then turned the gun on himself."
The mother was taken to The Med, but later died.
"I was sitting on the porch reading the newspaper and all of a sudden the police cars started pulling up and ambulances," one neighbor told MyFoxMemphis.
"We were doing homework so we didn't hear anything. It's pretty shocking. I don't know how else to put it. It's really sad," junior University of Memphis student Carolyn Mariano said.
The teens told investigators there had been a dispute before shooting.
"Sad day and the children are very upset," Kirkwood said.
Meanwhile, neighbors say they never noticed anything abnormal about the couple.
"A bunch of people would hang out over there. I'd always see people out talking and hanging out," Mariano said.
Police have yet to release the names of the victims.
