CLARENDON COUNTY (WIS) - A nine-month-old and his grandmother are dead and a third person injured after a shooting Wednesday morning shooting on Carissa Lane in Clarendon County.
Sheriff Randy Garrett said Justin Jeremiah Johnson, 21, shot his girlfriend, 21-year-old Kaisha Caraway, as well as their nine-month-old son and the girlfriend's mother with a shotgun around 10:00am. Garrett said the baby and his grandmother died, but Caraway's injury is non-life threatening.
Garrett initially said the child was two, but later corrected the information and said the couple also has a two-year-old girl who is fine.
Johnson was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, according to Garrett. He is being held at the Clarendon County Detention Center.
Garrett said the incident was the result of a domestic dispute, but the subject of the dispute is unclear. Johnson was previously charged with domestic violence and kidnapping in December of 2010.
The incident on Wednesday brings to mind last month's murder-suicide in Red Bank involving two young children and their mother. Deputies say Chancey Foy Smith shot and killed his estranged girlfriend, Amanda Peake, and her two children, Cameron and Sarah, before turning the gun on himself.
Additionally, this is the second Midlands domestic shooting involving a shotgun in as many days. On Tuesday, Shelton Robert Davis of Sumter was charged with attempted murder after officers say he shot his wife in the left hand and thigh.
We'll have more information on this story as it becomes available.
