A Silver Spring man who called 911 to say he had killed his wife has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly stabbing her to death while two of their young children were home.
Montgomery County police said 32-year-old Bernardo Paz Flores-Olvera called 911 from a pay phone at the Piney Branch Service Center, located at 8875 Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring, shortly before midnight Tuesday. He did not identify himself, but said he had killed his wife in their residence about two hours before calling, police said.
Officers found 33-year-old Elizabeth Velez Vasquez dead at the couple's apartment on the 1000 block of Quebec Terrace. She was stabbed with a knife and other sharp object, police said.
Two of the couple's three children were home during the attack. Those children, ages 3 months and 2 years, were not harmed, and Flores-Olvera later took them to a family member's home, police said.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
