NEWFOUNDLAND, Pa. -- Police say a man killed his wife in a northeastern Pennsylvania home where officials later seized more than 50 beagles.
Officials say 52-year-old Donnalynn Schroeder died in surgery after being shot early Sunday at the home she shared with her husband in Newfoundland, Wayne County.
Fifty-nine-year-old Bertrand Schroeder is charged in her death. It's not immediately clear if he has an attorney.
Police say more than 50 beagles, mostly puppies, were seized from the home after the killing. Trooper Kelly Todd tells The Times-Tribune of Scranton ( http://bit.ly/RNq7Xk) that animal cruelty charges are pending.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
