LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - Police said that a stabbing attack at a North Texas apartment has left one woman dead, a boy hurt and an injured suspect in custody. The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at the Basswood Manor Apartments, located in the 1000 block of Fox Avenue.
Authorities responded to a 911 call from a bystander about a man and a woman fighting. Officers arrived and located a stabbed 39-year-old woman and an injured 16-year-old boy at the scene, however, the suspect was gone. The woman and child were taken to a hospital where she died. The boy’s condition was not immediately available on Friday.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner and Lewisville Police Department later identified the victims as Norma Gomez and her son.
Authorities also identified the suspect as 24-year-old Nelson Flores. He had been dating Gomez for just over a year. Flores was caught after seeking medical help at a nearby hospital. Police are still trying to determine whether the suspect’s injuries were self-inflicted or the result of an altercation at the apartment complex.
Flores has been charged with murder and attempted murder. His bond has been set at $2 million.

(NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
