Orangeburg County deputies arrested a Cordova man they say shot and killed his sister Thursday night.
According to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office, officers were called to the Regional Medical Center around 11:40 p.m. after a Cordova woman arrive suffering from a gunshot wound.
Deputies say the woman did not survive and her 25-year-old brother Akim Jamal Bartley was arrested after being interviewed by investigators.
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said Bartley made statements that he attempted to break up an argument inside their home between his sister and her boyfriend twice.
When they continued to argue, Bartley said he went to retrieve a weapon and followed the boyfriend outside the house with the handgun, pointing it at him.
As his sister was exiting the house, Bartley turned in her direction and the firearm discharged.
Ravenell said Bartley is charged with manslaughter, pointing and presenting a firearm and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.”
A bond hearing was to be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
