PORT GIBSON, Miss. (AP) - A Port Gibson man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2011 slaying of his girlfriend.
Prosecutors tell the Vicksburg Post (http://bit.ly/zlbtjd) that 41-year-old Dexter Watson was convicted of murder this past week in Claiborne County in the death of 35-year-old Patricia Dotson.
Circuit Judge Lamar Pickard sentenced Watson to life with the possibility of parole when he turns 65.
Prosecutors say Dotson's body was found behind First Baptist Church in March. An autopsy showed she had been stabbed in the face and trauma to the head.
Authorities say Watson and Dotson had an ongoing relationship and were living in a homeless shelter at the time of her death.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
