SITKA -- A Sitka judge sentenced a woman Thursday to 55 years in prison for murdering her husband almost 23 years ago.
Jane Reth, 46, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in November for shooting and killing her husband, Scott Coville, in 1988, just after he turned 26, and disposing of his body.
The judge agreed to suspend 19 years of her sentence. He ordered her to serve 10 years' probation when she's released.
The case's first big break came in 2007 with a tip, troopers said. Cold case detectives tracked Reth to Oswego, Ill., where she was living quietly. They arrested her and brought her back to Alaska in January.
A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
