Opelousas Police are investigating a murder-suicide. Police Chief Perry Gallow says it was the result of a domestic altercation between a husband and wife.
Police were called to a home near South Street and Liberty Street at 8:00 Wednesday night for reports of a kidnapping, then moments later a second call came in for shots fired in that same area.
On arrival police found 32 year old Kristine Lemon suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to Opelousas General Hospital with critical injuries, and died a short time later.
Police believe the shooter was her estranged-husband, 34 Johnathan Lemon who they say went to his brother's home, a few blocks away in the 300-block of North Market Street, where he shot and killed himself.
Police say the Lemon's had five children together.

A compilation of daily news articles from around the United States about deaths (including both people and animals) that appear to occur in the context of a past or present intimate relationship, focusing on 2009-present. (NOTE: this blog is limited to incidents that appear in the media and are captured by our search terms. We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
