San Antonio police arrested a man accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend on the East Side on Wednesday night.
Marcus Anthony Robinson, 21, was in Bexar County Jail, charged with murder. A judge set bail at $250,000.
Jasmine Whipple, 21, was killed at a house in the 1500 block of Gibbs Street around 8 p.m.
Robinson's grandfather told police the couple had just left his house when he heard the sound of three gunshots coming from the front yard. He told his wife to investigate and she found Whipple, Robinson's girlfriend of five years, dead on the sidewalk, according to a police incident report. She covered her with a blanket, the report said.
Robinson remained at the scene and was detained when police arrived, officials said. He told police he and Whipple had been arguing, saying, “She hurt my heart,” the report states.
Relatives said the couple hadn't been having problems, but the grandfather told police Robinson “just isn't right in the head right now,” according to the report.
Police said the couple had three children together. It was not immediately clear where the children were when the shooting took place. They are in the custody of relatives, officials said.
Officers recovered a 12-gauge shotgun, three spent shells and a box of ammunition.

We recognize this is not an exhaustive portrayal of all deaths resulting from intimate violence.) When is society going to realize intimate violence makes victims of us all?
